Sweet Deception: The Unknown Risks of Flavored Tobacco - Facebook Live Event

Add this event to your calendar

Join us for a FREE Facebook Live event on the Columbus Regional Health's facebook page to learn more about e-cigarettes and why they are so popular.  Presented by Healthy Communities Tobacco Awareness Action Team.

Over time, the way tobacco companies market their products has changed. Tobacco companies used to be able to use cartoon characters like Joe Camel, which directly appealed to kids.  They also gave away lots of branded gear, so it wouldn’t be uncommon to see t-shirts, hats, or other items with tobacco company logos.  They could also advertise on billboards and sponsor some sporting events.

As tobacco advertising has been restricted, however, tobacco companies have had to adapt and change the way they market their products.  Now instead of billboards, sponsorships, and branded gear, tobacco companies spend most of their marketing dollars at the point-of-sale (in other words, in stores where tobacco is sold).

We will discuss point-of-sale marketing in Bartholomew County and share information about flavored tobacco products, including menthol, and their impact on youth and our most marginalized communities.

Questions will be accepted during the event in the Facebook Live format.
