Overview

VIMCare, formerly Volunteers In Medicine, opened in 1996 as our community's solution to a critical lack of access to primary healthcare for low-income uninsured Bartholomew County residents. Today, many patients are able to enroll in HIP 2.0, Indiana's Medicaid insurance product, which renders them ineligible for free care. This next-generation clinic, therefore, has been designed to provide access to HIP 2.0 patients as well as the uninsured.

VIMCare provides the same healing, health and hope to the same patients the clinic has always served, plus thousands more. The vision remains the same, even though the name has changed.

VIMCare is a primary care clinic.

The management of chronic disease is a patient care priority. The clinic recognizes that a trusted relationship with a provider, education, pharmaceuticals, and self-care efforts are needed in order to best care for patients. Patients receive this level of care and support at VIMCare.

Regular appointments with healthcare professionals and access to medications are critical in reducing complications, risks, and hospitalizations for patients with chronic disease conditions.

  • Acute primary care (such as ear infections and strep throat)

  • Annual physicals and sports physicals

  • Chronic care management (such as high blood pressure and diabetes)

  • Behavioral health (such as mental health and substance misuse)

  • Self-care resources

  • Lifestyle and education programs

  • Certified insurance navigator

  • Medication assistance

Who is eligible to be a VIMCare patient?

  • Patients with HIP 2.0 or other Medicaid coverage, or

  • Patients who are uninsured and meet certain income guidelines. A VIMCare Navigator will assist prospective patients in reviewing income eligibility guidelines for financial assistance.

  • Medicare/Medicaid patients

The clinic operates on an appointment basis. This allows clinic staff to schedule patients with the most appropriate provider, based on need. Call (812) 375-3660 during clinic hours for scheduling questions.

Charitable support is essential for the clinic's success. Columbus Regional Health Foundation is the primary philanthropic funder for VIMCare. Contributions may be made in two ways:

  • A gift to the Foundation's endowment to ensure long-term financial support for the clinic.
  • A designated gift to VIMCare.

The annual Reverse Raffle, held every November on the second Friday evening, is another way that the community provides support for VIMCare.

Medication Assistance Program

Many drug companies have programs to help people who have long-term medication needs. The Medication Assistance Program, working with the patient’s physician, helps such people apply for free or low-cost medicine offered by drug companies.

And we invite those who serve, to come without pride,
