Please share your story of why your nurse is so special:

“It has taken a while to process and put into words the immense gratitude my mother and I had for Andrea’s care. My mother was unexpectedly hospitalized after traveling to Columbus from Cincinnati. During the two-week stay, she underwent three procedures. It was an incredibly stressful and unforeseen circumstance, but Andrea’s presence made a significant difference in our experience. Her care for my mom was not only professional but deeply personal, as if she were caring for her own family member.

From the moment Andrea first interacted with my mother, it was clear that she was not just another patient. Andrea took the time to talk with my mom, learning about her life, interests and concerns. This personal connection made my mother feel more than just a number in the hospital system; it made her feel human and seen. My mother often remarked how Andrea’s compassionate care helped her feel valued during one of the most challenging periods of her life.

One particular instance that stands out is when Andrea came to check on my mom even though she was not her assigned nurse that day. My mother was having an incredibly tough day, feeling overwhelmed and down. Andrea’s brief visit lifted her spirits immensely. This act went above and beyond her responsibilities and demonstrated the true depth of her dedication and empathy. These small, yet significant gestures showcased Andrea’s genuine commitment to her patients’ well-being.

Andrea’s love for her job and her patients is evident in the way she administers care. She didn’t just perform her duties; she embraced them with a passion that is rare and admirable.

Her dedication to educating my mom about her procedures and encouraging her to regain confidence in her abilities was a testament to her outstanding character. Andrea explained the medical processes in a way that was easy to understand, reducing my mother’s anxiety and helping her feel more in control of her situation.

Moreover, Andrea’s encouragement played a crucial role in my mother’s recovery. She motivated her to do things independently, which was instrumental in regaining her confidence. My mother often speaks about how Andrea’s supportive words and actions gave her the strength to push through the difficult moments. This level of care goes beyond the physical; it addresses the emotional and psychological aspects of healing, which are just as important.

Andrea’s exceptional care made a profound impact on our lives during a very trying time. Her ability to connect on a personal level, her willingness to go above and beyond her duties, and her dedication to educating and empowering her patients are qualities that deserve recognition. My mother and I are forever grateful for Andrea’s compassionate care, and we believe she embodies the true spirit of nursing. Andrea’s actions not only eased my mother’s hospital stay but also left a lasting impression on our hearts. She is truly deserving of the DAISY Award for the extraordinary difference she made in our lives. "
