Even as a child, Kay was overweight and became self-conscious about her weight at a very young age. At her peak weight as an adult she weighed 335 lbs. As a result she developed diabetes and high blood pressure. She has 3 children and began to think about not being around to see them grow up.
“That was the worst part about weighing over 300 pounds.”
Since weight loss surgery, Kay has lost 140 pounds. She no longer battles with high blood pressure and was recently diagnosed as being free of diabetes. She has lots of energy now and her self-esteem is very high. She is no longer afraid to ride in someone else’s car out of fear that the seat belt would not fit, or afraid to fly on an airplane because the seats would be too small.
“Every day I find something new that I couldn’t do before. Every day is a little victory. My husband says he can see a new confidence in me. I now find that people notice me and even hold doors open for me. Before I always felt that everyone was looking past me and that I did not matter.”
“The staff at Columbus Regional Health was wonderful. They kept my family informed about everything and really took care of me throughout the whole process, especially after surgery. That really makes a difference.”
Kay and her family now enjoy trips to the amusement park and she is no longer bound to the sidelines on a park bench watching her family have fun.
“Thanks to Columbus Regional Health, I’m an active part of my family again.”
