  • Drug injections
  • Long-term antibiotic delivery
  • Rehydration
  • Iron, blood, platelet and plasma tranfusions
  • Therapeutic phlebotomy
  • Labs for patients with PICC lines or ports
  • Vitamin B12 shots for anemia

Vascular Access Team

Members of our Vascular Access Team are registered nurses certified for placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC lines) and midline catheters, as well as ultrasound guided peripheral IV lines. In addition, team members monitor and assess daily all Columbus Regional Hospital inpatients with vascular access devices such as PICC lines, midlines and ports.

With an order, our Vascular Access Team performs monthly port flushes for patients to help prevent clot formation and blockage and keep the port healthy and infection-free.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Your medication will be administered by skilled registered nurses.

An IV may be started for the administration of your medication or, if already established, we will access your PICC line or port.

Your medication is provided specifically for you by the CRH Pharmacy. There may be a short waiting period related to preparation as some medications take longer to mix. The infusion nurse may recommend you call Outpatient Infusion Therapy at (812) 375-3734 prior to your arrival so we can expedite your medication delivery.

Out of respect for other patients, please arrive promptly at your scheduled time. We are not able to accommodate walk-ins. All visits must be arranged by calling (812) 375-3734 .

For your comfort, you may bring food or drink if desired. If your infusion will be during a meal, you may bring something or purchase a to-go meal in our cafeteria. We have snacks and drinks available for visits less than three hours. If your visit will be longer than three hours, you may order a tray from our menu.

If you have daily medications that are scheduled at the time of your infusion, please bring those with you. We are unable to provide medications other than your prescribed infusion.

Wireless Internet access is available. You may bring hand held electronic devices.

Out of respect for other patients, please limit visitors to one.
